What is Mentorship?

In all career journeys you will come up against challenges, difficult times, or roadblocks. Having a mentor on your side will help you work through these issues, helping you navigate through challenging situations.

Our mentor programme is designed to pair up a mentee with someone with experience in their field, who can help provide guidance for the mentee to think about their challenge in a different way. This mentorship will give you the tools to be able to problem solve through issues independently.

We currently have the following mentors available for taking on mentees. Each mentor has different areas of expertise. Read the bios below and contact a mentor for a no-obligation chat about whether going through the mentorship programme is the right fit.

NZWiR offers the GROW Model of mentoring, focusing on

Goal: What does the mentee want to achieve
Reality: What challenges are they facing?
Options: What can they do?
Way Forward: What action will they take?

Conversations will remain confidential except in cases where safety is a concern.

A mentor is there to guide you to look at your problem in different ways and empower you to make decisions about your path forward.

Mentoring is not a replacement for counselling. For deeply personal or mental health matters, please seek help from a trained professional.

Mentorship is organised through scheduled discussions or sessions, rather than being on-call at all times. When you sign up with a mentor they will discuss their contact boundaries with you.

When you sign up with a mentor they will discuss the mentorship programme duration with you. Generally it will be to a maximum of 6 months, dependent on the progress you make.

While we encourage you to follow through the whole programme, we understand that life sometimes gets in the way. Rescheduling, pausing, or cancelling is ok.
