July – October Branch events

Branch Events
Canterbury Branch:
In August, members of the Canterbury Branch had the exciting opportunity to tour the Te Kaha Stadium construction site in Christchurch, thanks to the team at Graham Hill Roofing Ltd.
Led by the Graham Hill crew, the group got a behind-the-scenes look at how this major project is coming together. Currently one of New Zealand’s largest infrastructure projects, Te Kaha will be a 30,000-seat covered stadium set to open in April 2026. The stadium features a fully covered roof made from ETFE, a lightweight, transparent material that allows natural light to reach the turf while protecting spectators from the elements. The seating bowl includes a striking kowhaiwhai pattern inspired by the hammerhead shark, symbolising strength and agility, and designed by local Ngāi Tūāhuriri artist Morgan Darlison.
A huge thank you to Graham Hill Roofing for organising the tour and giving our members a sneak peek at the future of Christchurch sport and events!

Tauranga Branch Facility Tour – Hosted by Metalcraft Roofing.
Early September, saw our Waikato & BOP Branch unite for the fantastic opportunity to tour the Metalcraft Roofing facility, hosted by their local team. Leading the tour was Vera, a 20-year veteran of Metalcraft Tauranga, who generously shared her knowledge and insights into the operations and innovations behind the scenes.
It was a great chance for members to connect, learn more about the manufacturing process, and see firsthand the scale and precision involved in roofing production. A big thank you to Metalcraft Roofing for welcoming us and making the visit so engaging!
We’re incredibly proud to share that Elizabeth Watson, NZWiR committee member, and her team at Stone Roofing were roof installers on the new development. Even more special, this new structure stands beside one of the first roofs installed by NZWiR member Tina Potter, early in her roofing career. An awesome full-circle moment that highlights the legacy and leadership of wāhine in our industry.

Waikato Branch:
Members from the Waikato Branch proudly participated in the annual Pink Walk & Run held at Innes Common, Hamilton Lake on Thursday, 30 October 2025. This vibrant community event, hosted by the Breast Cancer Research Trust, brings together individuals and teams to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
Participants had the option to walk 3.8km or run 5km around the lake, with the event featuring live entertainment, spot prizes, best-dressed competitions (including for kids and dogs!), and a post-walk sausage sizzle. The atmosphere was electric, with hundreds turning out in a sea of pink to show their support for those affected by breast cancer.
While our team didn’t take home any best-dressed prizes, they did score some freebies after crossing the finish line! A huge thank you to everyone who donated to participate – even if you couldn’t make it in person, your support made a difference. Be sure to reach out if you’d like to participate in next year’s Pink Walk with the Waikato branch!
